Arranging a French mortgage after buying a property
Equity release is not common in France, and can be difficult to arrange for properties below €2m. This can especially be a problem if you have to buy a property for cash, perhaps because you need to complete quickly, or are unable to get a mortgage at the time.
There is a solution, called Post Finance. Some French lenders will arrange a mortgage after you have already bought the property, and they will treat it as though the mortgage was put in place when you purchased the property. So this is not classified as equity release.
There is a deadline, depending on the bank, of 6 to 12 months from the date of purchase.
