French mortgages to build your dream home
If you’re planning on buying a property in France and plan to renovate or extend the property, on a positive note in France it is possible to include the renovation and/or extension costs in the mortgage, in addition to the purchase price. However, if you are planning to manage the build yourself, in practice this process is drawn out and complicated.
If possible, it would be worth considering either appointing an architect or a specialist Design & Build construction firm to deal with the build on your behalf. A reputable specialist can often deliver a build at a lower cost, and much quicker than trying to do it yourself, saving you money and a lot less stress.
All French mortgages are based on your current income, and if the build costs are included in the mortgage, then the current bank will pay the invoices directly to the trades.
