French mortgages for Expats
Expat could mean two things, so we’ll answer them both here…
- French Nationals living overseas should first try to see what terms their own French bank would offer. Although they live overseas, sometimes French banks will make exceptions for their current clients. If that does not work, then you would normally be treated as a non-resident buyer, because you pay tax in a different country.
- Non-French Nationals living in France (e.g. British or Scandinavians, living in France) will be treated as French residents for a mortgage, if you are paying tax in France. If you live in France, but pay tax overseas, then you will probably be treated as a non-resident buyer.
