This beautiful Alpine village is a firm favorite with visitors and is the capital of the Portes du Soleil ski area, conveniently linked to the other resorts by ski lift circuit. A wide variety of different terrain makes this resort ideal for beginner to advanced level skiers and snowboarders, with 107 km of pistes and 127 runs. Within the resort itself, there are 5 green runs, 29 blue runs, 28 red and 9 black runs accessed by 26 chairlifts, 3 cable cars and 14 draglifts.
There are plenty of activities other than skiing and snowboarding, and include tobogganing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skating on the enormous ice-rink or ice diving in the freezing Lake Montriond. Both winter and summer are packed with events and festivals such as the Rock des Pistes, which is held in March, Crankworx and Pass’portes du Soleil, which are two large and popular mountain biking events. Summer activities include mountain biking (Morzine has some of the best mountain bike terrain in the world), rock climbing, paragliding, horse riding, golfing, fishing, canyoning and hiking some of the 800 km of marked hiking trails. There are many different restaurants, nightclubs and bars, making for a wonderful apres-ski atmosphere. If you are traveling with children, there are some great activities you can enjoy as a family such as taking a horse drawn carriage tour through the village, going on a farm tour and tasting the local cheeses, visiting the igloo and wigwam or taking advantage of the swimming and spa facilities at the Palais des Sport which has a large training pool, a learning pool and splash pool.
The closest airport is Geneva, 88 km away. Cluses and Thonon-les-Bains train stations are each 30 minutes away, with regular shuttles to and from the resort. You could also reach the resort via Chambery airport (1.5 hr), Lyon (2.5hr) or Grenoble (3hr).
