Meribel is a resort situated in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps. It is part of the Three Valleys ski area, and is connected with Courchevel, La Tania and Val Thorens, creating over 600km of pistes, and making it the largest linked ski area in the world. Altiport is the highest area at an altitude of 1,700m and is conveniently linked by shuttle bus and gondola to the lower are as such as Meribel Village (1,400m), Les Allues (1,200m) and Brides les Bains (600m).
The resort is great for a wide range of skiers, from beginners right up to experts. There are black, red, blue and green pistes (74 in total) with 150km of downhill, and 33km cross country pistes. The area is serviced by 61 ski lifts and there are also several snowboard parks for those who prefer to snowboard. The resort offers plenty of leisure activities for visitors and there are many shops, restaurants and services as well as annual events and entertainment. Year-round activities are on offer such as horse riding, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, visiting the spa and wellness centre, white water rafting, ice skating, tennis and golf to name just a few. Parque Olympique is located in La Chaudanne. It a an enormous sports centre with a large indoor swimming pool, water slide and a spa with sauna, steam room and a variety of beauty treatments on offer. There is also a well-equipped gym, ice rink and climbing wall. There are plenty of activities for children too, such as the Yeti Park and Inuit Piste, with free outdoor games, eagle shows, huskies and even hot chocolate.
There are 5 airports within a two-hour drive, but Chambery is the closest airport, at just over one hour’s drive. Transfer busses are frequent, reasonably priced and easily arranged. By train, the TGV runs from Paris to Chambery.
