This resort is situated in the Rhone-Alps on the French / Swiss border. The village has a free shuttle giving guests easy access to the ski lifts. Chatel is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, and with the relevant ski pass guests can enjoy access to over 650km of ski terrain with 8 French and 4 Swiss ski resorts. The skiing is great for beginners and intermediate skiers with 49 pistes in total (black, green, red and blue), 85km of downhill pistes and 49km of cross country pistes serviced by a total of 41 ski lifts. The resort altitude is 1,200m and the highest lift goes up to 2,200m, which practically guarantees early season snowfall and snow late into the ski season. There is a great snowboarding park with half-pipe for those who prefer snowboarding to skiing. Chatel has a fantastic apres-ski atmosphere and there are plenty of bars and night spots open till late! There is also a bowling alley and cinema showing films in both French and English.
Year-round activities are offered such as hiking, mountain biking, nearby windsurfing and sailing (on Lake Geneva), zip lining, as well as annual events, cultural activities and entertainment. Chatel has the Famille Plus Accreditation, which means that there are plenty of activities, restaurants, accommodation and services that are family-friendly. For a unique family outing, farm visits are offered weekly and there are fresh farm food tastings where you could taste Abondance cheese, renowned in this region. You could also take the tourist train, which is a lovely way to see the village and learn more about its history. The Forem D’O Water Park has and indoor and outdoor swimming pool, spa and well equipped gym.
