This Portes du Soleil ski area is made up of 13 linked ski resorts between the Mont Blanc in France, and Lake Geneva in Switzerland. There are over 650 km of marked pistes and around 200 lifts, making it one of the largest ski areas in the world. Eight of the linked ski resorts are French (Morzine, Chatel, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Saint-Jean-d’Aulps, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Abondance and Montriond) and the others are Swiss. Avoriaz is located right in the centre, with varied terrain for beginners right through to advanced skiers and snowboarders.
Due to the high altitude snowfall is guaranteed from December right through to April, averaging snowfall of around an impressive 8m each year. There are 29,5 km of cross country trails extended over 8 loops, with a super-pipe and 5 snow parks. All apartments and chalets are close to the center of the village, with plenty of shops, restaurants, services and bars. Although principally a family friendly resort, there is still a good après ski atmosphere, with live music, DJ’s and even a few nightclubs. The village has a high position, granting magnificent views overlooking Morzine, and ski lifts conveniently link to all the other resorts within the Portes du Soleil.
In winter, activities include helicopter tours, horse-drawn sleigh taxis rides, snowmobiling, ice-skating at the outdoor skating rink, paragliding and visiting the village igloo. Summer activities include mountain biking, hiking, horse riding, ten-pin bowling, fishing, water rafting, rock climbing and golf. There is a spa, gym and squash courts and even a man-made aquatic centre called Aquariaz, which has a large pool, a smaller paddling pool, a water playhouse with plenty of fun activities for the little ones, a 10m high slide winder and lush vegetation surrounding a river with a gentle current, perfect for kids.
Avoriaz is located less than 90 minutes from Geneva Airport.
