The French Alps are just as spectacular in winter as they are in summer. The Alps offer some of the most famous ski resorts in the world, including the Three Valleys, which is the largest connected ski area in the world, as well as picturesque scenery, which also includes the beautiful lakes of Lake Geneva and Lac d’Annecy. In winter the snow capped mountains become a skier and snowboarder’s playground. In summer, a hiker and cyclists paradise.
Rhone-Alpes is one of the largest regions in France and includes some of France’s most beautiful landscapes and scenery with its spectacular national parks and famed Alpine ski areas. It borders Switzerland and Italy with millions of visitors descending each year to partake in outdoor activities such as hiking, water-sports, skiing, climbing and cycling. You will find historic cities and towns packed with tradition, breath-taking landscapes such as the Mont-Blanc and ever popular lake Annecy.
There are eight departments in total and is comprised of cities such as Lyon, classed as a UNESCO world heritage site and renowned for gastronomy and football. Alpine towns such as Chamoix, Saint Gervais and Megeve are very popular due to the great skiing and year-round activities and events. Grenoble is another beautiful town, where visitors can take the famous cable car and view the spectacular mountains and city sites below. The Rhone Valley runs from Vienne to Tournon and contains some of the famous Cote du Rhone vineyards. The majestic Mont Blanc (4,808m altitude) sits on the border between France and Italy and is the highest mountain in Europe and the third most visited natural site in the world.
