As Spain’s third largest city, Valencia is a lively metropolis with a mix of contemporary and traditional architecture. There is over 100 km of coastline and the beaches are very well maintained with plenty of water-based activities on offer such as sailing, swimming, kite-surfing, wind-surfing and kayaking. In the old town, El Carmen, there are some incredible museums and art galleries, as well the Valencia Cathedral which was constructed in the 13th century. The nightlife in Valencia is unmatched and you can often find musicians playing their instruments and singing outside one of the many pubs and restaurants. Valencia is probably most famous for its delicious Paella, especially the combination of chicken and rabbit. Aside from the many cultural and historical sites, there are beautiful public gardens, a central market with around 1 000 stalls selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to meat, cheeses and even sweets. Just opposite the market you will find La Lonja de la Seda, which is a 15th century silk exchange market and has been named as a UNESCO world heritage site. Valencia airport is located approximately 10 km from the city centre.
