This ski area boasts 300 km of slopes, and two world-famous resorts, namely, Tignes and Val d’Isere. The slopes are varied and suitable to a range of different abilities, from beginner right up to expert. In total, there are 22 green runs, 61 blue runs, 46 red runs and 25 black all serviced by 87 lifts. There are also two terrain parks, 2 glaciers and around 44 km of cross country skiing.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing setting or ready to get out on the slopes these resorts certainly have a lot to offer. Tignes is known for being one of the best resorts for winter sports, purpose-built and perfectly designed for the more serious skier, while Val d’Isere has a reputation for have the best apre-ski atmosphere and has a more traditional village appeal, with 5 star hotels, luxury apartments and beautiful Alpine chalets. There is an element of truth to both claims, and visitors will not be disappointed. Tignes used to have year-round skiing as it boasts the glacier “La Grand Motte”, although it is now closed for a few weeks each year for necessary maintenance.

Both resorts can be enjoyed in winter and summer, and activities include ice-driving, paragliding, winter walking, ice diving, dog-sledding, ice skating, ice climbing or visiting the Aquasportif centre, which has swimming pools, water cannons, massage gets, paddling pool, a spa, gym and indoor football centre. Summer activities include hiking, nature walks, fishing, kayaking, canyoning, cycling, donkey trekking, paintball and even golf. Tignes is home to the Winter X Games, where freestyle skiers and snowboarders compete, this draws in plenty of visitors and adds to the festivities. Although apre ski is considered better in Val d’Isere, Tignes certainly does not disappoint. There are bars, restaurants and nightclubs, which throw elaborate parties with live bands and DJ’s.

The nearest airport is Chambery at one and a half hour’s drive, then Geneva (2 hours 15 minutes). The nearest train station is Bourg St Maurice, 40 minutes, which has regular shuttle busses to and from the resorts.
