Saint-Emilion is a 2000 year old medieval city perched on a rocky massif in South West France, only 1 hour train journey from Bordeaux. It has a noticeably rich past, vastly evident while walking around within the village. Like Bordeaux, Saint-Emilion is world renowned for its castles and prestigious wines, and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. There are city ruins, churches, cloisters, underground catacombs, a Bell Tower and 13th century King’s Tower to explore. You can sample the delicious wines at one of the nearby vineyards, or in one of the many little restaurants and cafes dotted around the village. There are souvenir and curio shops as well as local arts and crafts stores to wander around.
