Famous not only for its wines, but culture and beautiful scenery, Bordeaux has an international airport, opera house, museums, theatre and incredible architecture. Medoc and St Emillion are also world-famous wine producing areas located within Gironde. History enthusiasts will be in their element visiting the cathedrals, Romanesque churches, chateaux, medieval villages and fortified mills. There are many different festivals and events organized in Gironde throughout the year, such as the jazz festival, carnivals and international surfing competitions.
