With over 1,000 km of coastline, quaint coastal villages and islands just a short boat ride away, it’s easy to see why Finistere is such a popular destination for both French and foreign visitors. The beaches feature fine, white sand and inland there are exquisite nature reserves and protected areas. There are around 5,000 km of marked footpaths, so exploring on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback are popular options when it comes to sightseeing in this area. Finistere’s climate is usually warm and sunny, with dunes, natural reserves and little hidden-away beach coves it is a perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. The cuisine features savoury pancakes, seafood and cider whilst the local culture (Celtic) dazzles with warmth and a friendly attitude towards visitors. Further inland the historical villages, with medieval ruins, castles, churches and monuments will not disappoint.

Huelgoat, located in central Finistere, is a unique and beautiful town to visit. There is a forest with enormous moss covered boulders and the river d’Argent runs through it. There are amazing rock formations to see such as La Roche Tremblante (The Trembling Rock) and Le Champignon (The Mushroom). You can also spend some time tracking down the various megalithic sites including the oldest monument in the world, the Cairn de Barnenez near Plouezoc’h. Driving to Brest is approximately 55 km via the N165 motorway and definitely worth a visit. It is a military port but there is a lovely commercial harbour, which you can explore as well as a naval museum. There are chateaux, medieval watchtowers, museums and art galleries along with beautiful beaches,  restaurants and seaside cafes. Don’t forget to taste the famous crepes and the kougin amann, a round cake with layers of butter and sugar.
