Les Grandes Rousses Destination Guide

Les Grandes Rousses has 250 km of pistes, with an altitude reaching around 2 200m and 117 slopes. This famous ski area caters for all levels of skier and snowboarder with 38 green runs, 31 blue, 33 red and 16 black all served by 84 lifts. It even includes the ‘longest slope in the world’, with 16km of continuous skiing and has two snow parks, bob-sleigh area, night slopes as well as nursery slopes. The ski area includes the following resorts.

Villard Reculas

A family-friendly resort, with plenty of activities for children as well as child-care options. There are 10 pistes in total (1 green, 4 blue, 2 red and 2 black) and the maximum vertical altitude height is 2 080m. 

Vaujany

With 46 km of downhill pistes with 42 green slopes, 37 blue, 39 red and 17 black. The village is small and charming, with a few shops, restaurants, bars and amenities. 

Oz-en-Oisans

Featuring 62 km of downhill pistes, with 42 green slopes, 37 blue, 39 red and 17 black all serviced by 22 ski lifts. 

Auris-en-Oisans

With 45 km of downhill pistes including 42 green slopes, 37 blue, 39 red and 17 black served by 15 ski lifts. 

Alpe d’Huez  

Located in a sunny bowl and is affectionately known as ‘L’Ile au Soleil’ (Island of the sun) as most of the slopes are south-facing and have exceptional views overlooking France and the Southern Alps. 

Activities

Aside from skiing and snowboarding at these resorts, winter activity options include bowling, cinema, a leisure centre, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, tobogganing and paragliding. In the summertime, visitors can go hiking, horse-riding, mountain biking, bowling, golf, play table tennis. You can also participate in water rafting and water sports. If you’d prefer to take it easy and relax, there is a spa and wellness area.

Travel

The closest airport is Grenoble at around 90 minutes’ drive, Lyon airport is 2 hours and Geneva 2 hours 30 minutes.
