Set in the magnificent Espace Killy ski area, the purpose built resort of Tignes gives visitors access to 300 km of slopes, suitable for varying abilities from beginner to expert, serviced by 87 lifts. There are 154 pistes (22 green, 61 blue, 46 red and 25 black) and 20 km of cross country skiing. Tignes is known for being one of the best resorts for winter sports, purpose-built and perfectly designed for the more serious skier. The Grand Motte glacier used to offer year-round skiing, although now it is closed for a few weeks at the end of each season for necessary maintenance.
There are five villages, namely, Val Claret, Le Lac, Lavachet, Boisses and Breviers which all have excellent shops and restaurants to choose from as well as the necessary services such as a post office, ATM, medical services, patisserie and foreign exchange. For apre-ski there are some good bars and nightclubs, which have regular parties with live music and DJβs, a bowling alley, cinema, spas and wellness center, swimming pools and fitness centres. Summertime activities include hiking, nature walks, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, donkey trekking, and paragliding. If you are looking for winter activities other than skiing, then you could try your hand at ice driving, paragliding, winter walking, ice diving, dog-sledding, ice skating on the massive lake, ice climbing. Tignes is home to the Winter X Games, where freestyle skiers and snowboarders compete, this draws in plenty of visitors and adds to the festivities. Should you wish to visit Val dβIsere then there is a shuttle service, you could take the ski lifts or take a taxi.
The nearest airport is Chambery, at a distance of 142 km. Geneva airport is 172 km away, and the nearest TGV train station is Bourg St Maurice at 30 km away.
