Hossegor Desination Guide
Hossegor, Capbreton and Seignosse are three communes still greatly sought after on the Landes coast. This southern portion of the Landes benefits from its close proximity to the nearby Basque coast. Residents undoubtedly appreciate the comfortable living environment, the relaxing atmosphere and open spaces. The commune of Hossegor consists of a clear turquoise ocean, a lake and a forest. It consequently reveals a treasure trove of nature that has attracted both French and foreign visitors since the beginning of the 20th century.
Visitors can enjoy scenic walks along the banks of the lake, canal or beach in the shade of the beautiful indigenous pines. The beaches are sandy and well maintained with good facilities. Conveniently, wooden walkways make for easy access to the beach. Furthermore, there are lifeguards on duty at the busiest and most central parts of the beach. Many different activities are available such as golf at the famous Golf Club d’Hossegor, one of the top 100 courses in France.
Surf the waves of Hossegor, which attracts avid surfers from all over the world. The Quiksilver Pro, the stage of the world surfing championship, is organized in October each year and Hossegor is fondly referred to as “The Hawaii of Europe” in reference to its surfing and beach culture.
Hossegor boasts an exceptional natural heritage. There is a charming holiday atmosphere and the housing market is almost exclusively aimed at holiday homes. In the summer this city is busy and vibrant. Locals and visitors spend their days on the beach and evenings at one of the many restaurants, bars or cafes. There are some nightclubs and the area is particularly vibey in the summer months when the weather is good and there are a large number of visitors.
Although Hossegor does not have its own airport or train station, Biarritz airport is located approximately 37 km drive along the A63 motorway.
